Research Ethics

Most research published in IJIP (Indonesian Journal of Islamic Psychology) involves human participants. Authors must conduct and report their research according to the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct, the Declaration of Helsinki, and national regulations.

1. Ethical approval

  • Research involving human participants (surveys, experiments, interventions, interviews, observation, psychological testing) or animals must be approved by a research ethics committee before data collection.
  • The article states the name of the committee, the approval number and the year in an Ethical Approval statement.
  • For low-risk research where formal approval is not required by the authors' institution, the authors state why, and declare that the research followed ethical principles; the editor and reviewers decide whether this is acceptable.

2. Informed consent and vulnerable groups

  • Participants give informed consent (written or recorded). For minors, consent is obtained from a parent or guardian and assent from the child.
  • Extra safeguards apply to vulnerable participants, such as children, prisoners and parolees, patients, people with mental-health conditions, and people in dependent relationships with the researchers. Explain them in the Method section.

3. Privacy

Participants must not be identifiable from the article (names, photos, detailed case descriptions) unless they gave written consent for publication. Data are handled according to UU No. 27 Tahun 2022 tentang Pelindungan Data Pribadi (see the Data Availability Policy).

4. Instruments

Authors use psychological instruments according to their licence and cite the original and adaptation studies. Adapted or translated instruments report the adaptation procedure and validity and reliability evidence.

Manuscripts without adequate ethical safeguards are returned or declined; problems found after publication are handled under Corrections, Retractions and Misconduct.
