Screening for Plagiarism

All manuscripts submitted to IJIP (Indonesian Journal of Islamic Psychology) are checked for similarity with Turnitin (or an equivalent tool) at the initial screening, before peer review, and again before publication.

Thresholds

  • The overall similarity index must not exceed 20%, excluding the reference list and properly quoted text.
  • No more than 3% may come from any single source.
  • A similarity percentage alone is not proof of plagiarism. The editor examines the report for large blocks of text that match one source and are not quoted.

Classification and handling

  1. Before review, minor overlap (above the threshold, properly cited but insufficiently paraphrased): the manuscript is returned to the authors for rewriting.
  2. Before review, substantial plagiarism (copied text, data or ideas without attribution, or redundant/duplicate publication): the manuscript is rejected and the authors are informed of the reason.
  3. After publication: the case is handled according to the COPE flowcharts and our Corrections, Retractions and Misconduct policy, which may lead to a correction or a retraction.

Authors must make sure their work is original and that any text, data or idea taken from others, including their own previous publications, is cited or quoted correctly.
