AI Usage Policy

The Indonesian Journal of Islamic Economics Research (IJIER) upholds the principles of publication ethics and research integrity in line with the standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in preparing manuscripts must be transparent, responsible, and limited.

1. Authorship and Human Responsibility

All manuscripts must be the original intellectual work of human authors. AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT or similar systems) cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors bear full responsibility for the content of their work.

2. Permitted Use (Limited)

AI tools may be used in a limited capacity for:

  • language editing and grammar correction;
  • improving clarity and readability.

AI must not be used to generate the core scientific content, analysis, interpretation, or conclusions of the manuscript.

3. Prohibited Practices

The following are strictly prohibited:

  • manuscripts or substantial parts of the text generated by AI without genuine human authorship;
  • fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data, images, or references;
  • the use of AI to produce inaccurate, unverifiable, or non-existent (fictitious) citations;
  • any use that violates research integrity and ethical standards.

4. Disclosure Requirement

Authors must disclose any use of AI tools in a section titled “Declaration of Generative AI Use”, placed before the References. The statement should name the tool used and describe its purpose. Example:

“During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [tool name] solely to improve language and readability. All content was reviewed and validated by the authors, who take full responsibility for the published article.”

If no AI tools were used, authors should state: “No generative AI tools were used in the preparation of this manuscript.” Failure to disclose the use of AI is considered a breach of publication ethics.

5. Accountability and Verification

Authors are fully responsible for:

  • the accuracy and validity of all statements and data;
  • proper citation and originality;
  • verifying all AI-assisted output, including checking every reference against its original source.

AI tools cannot take responsibility for any part of the manuscript.

6. Confidentiality in the Editorial Process

Editors and reviewers must not upload manuscripts, review reports, or any confidential data into AI systems. The peer-review process must remain secure and confidential and comply with publication ethics standards. Editorial decisions are made by the editors and are not delegated to AI.

7. Compliance and Enforcement

IJIER reserves the right to investigate the use of AI and to request clarification at any stage of the editorial process. Non-compliance may result in:

  • rejection of the manuscript;
  • retraction of a published article;
  • notification of the authors’ affiliated institutions, where necessary.

All use of AI must comply with the journal’s policies on Publication Ethics, Plagiarism, and Research Integrity.
