Abstrak

Artikel tersebut menggambarkan satu kajian penyelidikan kuantitatif yang mengkaji kekerapan penyalahgunaan dan pengabaian dalam sejarah hidup dalam kalangan populasi contoh di Brunei Darussalam. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan inventori yang  berstandard dalam bidang ini, yang diadaptasikan kepada konteks Brunei dan digunakan untuk mengukur kejadian dan jenis penyalahgunaan serta pengabaian. Sejumlah populasi 112 responden yang dipilih dari dua institusi pendidikan telah menjawap Soal Selidik Adverse Childhood Experiences International (ACE-IQ) dengan kadar pulangan data 100%. Penemuan menunjukkan bahawa penyalahgunaan dan pengabaian yang paling kerap berlaku dalam kalangan responden adalah penyalahgunaan emosi dan fizikal serta pengabaian. Kajian menyimpulkan bahawa responden yang melaporkan sebarang bentuk penyalahgunaan dan pengabaian mungkin telah mengalami  penyalahgunaan dan pengabaian jenis lain, dan korelasi yang paling konsisten adalah antara penyalahgunaan alkohol dan beberapa jenis penyalahgunaan, termasuk penyalahgunaan seksual dengan hubungan kelamin yang dilaporkan oleh responden. Penemuan menyimpulkan bahawa penyalahgunaan yang paling kerap adalah penyalahgunaan emosi (91%), diikuti oleh pengabaian fizikal dan emosi (59%) dan penyalahgunaan fizikal (46%). Kekerapan penyalahgunaan yang paling rendah dilaporkan oleh responden adalah penyalahgunaan seksual (26%).
