Abstract

This study examines the effects of servicescape and Islamic attributes on tourists visiting decisions at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Solo, Indonesia, with electronic word of mouth (e-WOM) as a mediating variable. A quantitative approach was employed using primary data collected through questionnaires from 180 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that servicescape has a positive but statistically insignificant direct effect on visiting decisions, whereas Islamic attributes have a positive and significant effect. Both servicescape and Islamic attributes positively influence e-WOM, which also has a positive and significant effect on visiting decisions. Furthermore, e-WOM significantly mediates the relationships between servicescape and visiting decisions and between Islamic attributes and visiting decisions. These findings highlight the importance of destination characteristics that accommodate Muslim visitors’ needs and the role of online communication in shaping visiting decisions. This study contributes to the literature on religious tourism by examining the direct and indirect effects of servicescape and Islamic attributes on visiting decisions at a prominent religious tourism destination.
