Altruistic Motivation of the "Pasukan Baik" Group in Ramadan Activities at Al-Falah Grand Mosque Sragen

Abstract

This study examines the religious altruistic motivation of young volunteers in mosque-based Ramadhan da’wah through the Pasukan Baik community at Masjid Raya Al-Falah Sragen. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, written responses, participatory observation, and documentation involving one mosque supervisor and five young volunteers. The data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. The findings reveal that young volunteers’ altruistic motivation is shaped by religious values, sincerity, the pursuit of Allah’s pleasure, service to congregants, positive social relations, and a sense of responsibility to enliven the mosque. These motivations are expressed through da’wah bil-hal, such as preparing iftar meals, welcoming congregants, supporting religious programs, and maintaining worship comfort. This study contributes to Da’wah Management studies by highlighting religious altruistic motivation as a conceptual lens for understanding youth mosque volunteerism. Practically, mosque administrators need to develop open, appreciative, and community-based volunteer systems to sustain youth participation in mosque-based da’wah
